Thursday evening 8th October 2021 to Sunday 11th: Strathean Residential Weekend

Every year REMU arranges a weekend workshop at Strathean, a large house near Te Horo. Participants take part in workshops over the weekend. Strathean is located in large park-like grounds, so there is always the option of time out and relaxation.

Participants are welcome to attend for one or two days if pressed for time. There is a modest charge for facilities and for the tutor's fees. The cost will be approximately $320 for full-time live-in participants (To be confirmed nearer to the time). This charge includes tutor fees, accommodation and breakfasts. This fee also includes cleaning, leaving us more time to play music.

If you attend for just day sessions, there will be a modest charge to cover tutor fees and Strathean use.

Tutors:

Tutors to be confirmed later in the year.

Food arrangements:

We will be self-catering this year, with the emphasis on minimising preparation and cooking. Everyone is expected to bring some food, and will be allocated at least one session helping out in the kitchen. There are takeaways and a good supermarket in Otaki, a 5 minute drive from Strathean.

Instruments:

Bring as many recorders as you can. Other instruments are welcome, especially early music instruments (lute, viola de gamba, viol, baroque bassoon etc).

Bedding:

You will need to bring a sleeping bag (or bed linen), and a pillow slip. Strathean now supply pillows. Bedding may be hired on site at an extra charge.

Footwear:

Please bring slippers or clean "inside" shoes to protect the newly laid carpet.

Mini-concert and Accompniament:

There will be a mini-concert on Saturday afternoon. See the General information sheet for details. There will be an acoustic harpsichord (A=415) and an electronic harpsichord (tunable to A=415 or A=440) available for general use, and we usually have several people that can play.

Location:

Strathean is located at 212 Old Hautere Rd, a couple of kilometres inland from SH1 about 3km south of Otaki. As the new Peka Peka to Otaki Expressway is being built nearby, the intersection of SH1 and Old Hautere Rd is permanently closed. Access is currently via Te Horo Beach Road, then right over the bridge that spans the expressway. This is likely to change before our weekend, and we will keep you posted.
